Bruce Crandall, KN4GDX, presented the EMCOMM Briefing on the R3EmComm Bulletin Board System (BBS).
The BBS has been operational since October 14, 2026, and is available on HF and VHF. Setup and operational details are on the R3EMCOMM website. The BBS provides both a general mail/messaging/bulletin service and file access.
R3EMCOMM provides continuous HF access with SEEN (The SouthEast Emergency Network) for daily bulletins and file exchange. HF access is available throughout Virginia and the Eastern US. The VHF service is accessible in most parts of Northern Virginia through Central Virginia. It is intended to facilitate Technician or other non-HF digital communications users.
R3EMCOMM VHF access is located in Fauquier County and is easily accessible by most stations in the W4CUL 147.120 MHz VHF FM area. Access is via the KO2F Vara Digipeater, which provides connectivity to the Fauquier base (145.530 MHz).
Current Winlink Vara HF and/or VHF users can easily set up R3EMCOMM BBS operations. Setup details, testing, and one-on-one support are available.
Both HF and VHF use the QTTerm software to interface Vara with your radio and provide connection and command access.
